Obama is meeting with indigenous peoples
USA has 564 federally recognized indigenous tribes and President Obama is now meeting with these at the Tribal Nations Summit, which will be held November 5 this year.
The President has invited one representative from each of the 564 tribes to the conference in the White House. Such a conference has never been held before.
We wish for a recognition of the Declaration
Inuit Circumpolar Council hopes that the coming conference will result a recognition of the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. USA is one of three countries that has not recognised the Declaration.
President Obama has until now been the American President who has showed most interest in indigenous peoples.
